UNFPA helps countries identify and understand such trends, which are critical to development. UNFPA is one of the world’s largest funders of population data collection and will be publishing the State of World population 2017. The report typically provides an in-depth analysis on population growth trends, reproductive age trends, fertility rates, urbanization and migration trends and what impact these trends will have on future generations and giving countries a background of how to ensure sustainable development is to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every birth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled.

UNFPA published the State of World Population report (SWOP) on 17 October 2017 in Gaborone, BOTSWANA.  The Minister of Health and Wellness, Honorable Dorcas Makgato officially launched the report.

The theme of the SWOP 2017 is; Worlds Apart: Reproductive Health and Rights in an Age of Inequality”.
